Nick Cassarino (a.k.a. Nicky Cake) was born into a musical family in the town of Middlebury, Vermont. He grew up hearing his family’s wedding band rehearse and rock and would always sing along. At age 10 he formed his first punk rock power trio "The Wingnuts" with his father on bass. At the young age of 14, Nick's ears needed more and he started studying jazz.
During the next 6 years, Nick played various venues in the Northeast honing his interpretation of jazz language and learning the depths of soul and gospel music. At age 21 he moved to Brooklyn, NY where he began playing around New York City with various jazz configurations as well as gospel choirs.
In the fall of 2008 he met Yvette Rovira and got on board for her two month stint at the Venetian Hotel in Macau, China. Other members of that band included Mega, Joey Bagadeez, Miami Geis and E. Flux. When the group returned from China in January of 2009, Lifted's new incarnation with the missed MCs, Lifted had now developed into the Lifted Crew.
