Benjamin Geis is the bassist and a co-founder of Lifted Crew. Growing up Ben was constantly surrounded by music, playing piano at age 4 and has stated that he does not remember a time in his life that he wasn't playing. Ben began taking piano lessons at age 5 and continued through out most of his teen years. At age 12 he began to play the bass. Around this time he and his brother Collin formed their first band. Playing mostly punk rock and popular music they performed at local underage shows and parties. During high school Ben began studies with the jazz department at Plymouth State College. At age 16 after seeing Parliament Funkadelic with Bootsy Collins, Ben decided he would begin focusing on being a bassist primarily.
Lifted formed in the year 2000 when Ben and his brother Collin met Mr. AT. The three began making tracks and eventually playing shows under the name Lifted. The early shows were a raw and primal form of the Lifted sound. Audience members were immediately drawn to the groups energetic performances and the crazy parties which generally followed.
In 2001 Ben attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music to further his musical education. During school Ben studied with John Lockwood, Bob Moses and Bruce Gertz along with many other great teachers. He studied bass performance and jazz composition and enjoyed performing in the local Boston music scene.
On his first day in Boston he met Matt (Joe) Lambert and the two started playing music, shorty after the two did a show as Lifted. This was the beginning of a period of musical experimentation which eventually led to lead to the formation of the Lifted Crew. An interegal part of these early sessions was the addition of Joel Gonzalez on trumpet. Over the years the band has had many different musicians including: Paul Vinton, Ian McGuire, Zaccai Curtis, Dante Hawthorne, Zack Lucas and many more. These early performances first in Boston then in New York gained the band a reputation for having energetic live performances and wild fans.
Throughout the years Ben has shared the stage with many notable artists including: Cyril Neville, Masta Ace, Eddie Vedder, Brand Nubian, Brother Ali, to name a few. He has performed all over the U.S. as well as Europe and Asia. He currently plays with Yvette Rovira as her bassist and occasional co-writer. Music the pair wrote together was recently featured on VH1, MTV and Logo. Ben is currently the touring bassist for hip hop legend Slick Rick "The Ruler" and enjoys regular live performances with him.
